I had a message on my machine when I got out of class yesterday. It was from Beth's before-school teachers saying that she fell on the playground before school and hurt her lip. They said that she was fine, but had an ice pack on it.
The message was left an hour before I got it. I thought I should check in. So I called the school to talk to her WONDERFUL (sarcasm) classroom teachers. I told the teacher that I had a call from the before-care teacher that Beth was hurt. She said that Beth was fine...clunk...clunk...clunk. She then picked up the phone that she dropped and proceeded to hang up on me before we were finished talking.
I know that happens, so I called back. The secretary patched me through to her room. Ring..ring...ring.. No answer. I got the secretary back. She told me they had my number and would call if Beth needed me.
I couldn't believe that the teacher didn't call back or email me. RUDE.
I get home and there is a message on our home phone. It was the teacher. She apologized that she dropped the phone (OK) but Beth fell again during recess and is really banged up. She said that she is hurting, but making it through. The message was left at 12:30 and I got home at 4:00. She came home a mess. Her knees had huge bandages and her palms were scraped. Her lip was big. She did look like she had gotten into a brawl.
The bigger note is why didn't the teacher call me at work? They had my number. I conversed with her earlier. SEE - it is not me. These teachers really don't get it.
The bigger issue is why is Beth falling twice at school. She is on medicine for an ear infection. I have a hunch that it isn't getting better. I dropped her off at school this morning and already had to pick her up and take her home to Tim. She said she felt like she was going to throw up and faint. The saga never ends. I will be glad - three more weeks and the juggling is over!!
The moral to this story - if you drop the phone and hang up on someone, it is common courtesy to call them back, apologize and ask if they were finished talking. I did happen to be in mid sentence.
