Home Today

Andy has a bad cold and is home sick today. I know it has been a LONG week of meetings and presentations when I actually say a prayer of thanks for not having to go to work today and sit through another day of blather.  Just to point out, however, I am not happy for a sick kid. Just that it is my turn to stay home.

Just to give you a short version of the last three days - Poor people are poor and can't help themselves from not being successful. We somehow have "hidden rules"  they don't know about. For example - where to find the library.  Somehow walking down the hall with a sign pointed to the library is out of reach for "poor" students.  This is MSTC - not Hogwarts.  These are the same students who can navigate ten entitlement programs and understand the percentage of how many classes to take and how much they can earn to keep on these programs. But the ten feet to the library is a barrier.

Now if that isn't ridiculous - try this one.  Children with disabilities feel bad being in remedial classes so we shouldn't put them there. We should just let them start into classes that have content they aren't ready for - because somehow they will magically know the stuff. And reading isn't important.  We don't need to read.  This from the guy who wrote two books.   It went on and on for THREE days!

You see where staying home with a sick kid has me doing a little jig. I guess this explains why the US has dropped to around 30 on the world stage.

On a different note, Beth's design was picked for the "Jump Rope for Heart" event. I'll post a picture if she gets a t-shirt.
