Facebook, believe it or not, has been invaluable this year is keeping all of these threads together. A technology I originally scoffed at, now becomes a life line to the important individuals in my life. I find that one cousin can't get home for Christmas - although desperately trying for a couple weeks now. Another is in my line of work and finds the countdown to vacations as exciting as I do.(Most of my family doesn't feel this excitement) Keeping in contact with nephews who are now moving to the next phase of their lives. Reconnecting with high school friends has been fun. Keeping tabs on friends of the kids and seeing what the latest buzz is. And most important, keeping in contact with my own family. Some may find this method of communication cold and lazy. However, Facebook has given me a connection to people that I have lost and now regained.
This summer we had a serious medical scare with my mother. We are so lucky she pulled through such a serious situation with little after effects. The last month of 2010 has taught me how valuable friends and family are. Losing my Godmother is not only sad, but changes the family dynamic of immortality. As sad as that event was, seeing cousins and Aunts and Uncles that I haven't seen in years was rewarding. A sad twist where we only see each other at special occasions.
The kids and I spent the last couple days with my old college roommates. One I haven't seen in nine years and the other in two. There is no excuse, yet the years melted away. Keeping in contact and making an effort is so important. It was fun seeing the next generation bond.
We then spent last night with new friends. It occurred to me how lucky we are to have so many people to share our lives with.
2010 brought us one year older with kids who are growing into their own. We are truly blessed by friends and family.
